RoverPass sends booking conversion data to your GA4 property through Google Tag Manager. Owners see exactly which campaigns and sources drive reservations — with real revenue attached to every booking.
RoverPass doesn't connect to GA4 directly — there's no field for a G-XXXXXXXXXX measurement ID. Instead, GA4 runs through the Google Tag Manager integration:
GTM-XXXXXXX) is configured on your property and loads on every booking-engine page.purchase event to the dataLayer — once per booking, de-duplicated so a refresh won't double-count.Your existing GA4 reports — Acquisition, Conversions, Funnel Exploration — fill with real reservation revenue.
The purchase event carries up to six parameters, each individually toggleable per property: transaction_id (the RoverPass reservation ID), value (booking total), currency, tax, affiliation (campground name), and items (one per reservation; group bookings include all grouped reservations).
One setup note for your GA4 tag: these fields are pushed flat on the dataLayer event, not nested under an ecommerce object — so your GA4 purchase tag should read top-level dataLayer variables. Full schema and a sample push are in the Google Tag Manager article.
GTM-XXXXXXX)purchase that reads the top-level dataLayer variables (transaction_id, value, currency, tax, affiliation, items).purchase as a key event in GA4 under Admin → Events.Q: Can I just paste a GA4 measurement ID (G-XXXXXXXXXX) into RoverPass? No. There's no direct GA4 connection — GA4 data flows through your GTM container. If you only run GA4 and nothing else, GTM is still the path.
Q: Can I use Universal Analytics (UA-XXXX)? No. UA was sunset by Google in July 2024 and no longer processes data.
Q: Do funnel events like view_item or begin_checkout fire?
Not today. Only the purchase event fires, on the checkout confirmation page.
Q: What about phone or manually-entered reservations?
Only web bookings emit the purchase event. Reservations entered manually in the RoverPass backend don't fire any analytics event today.
Q: Will I see revenue from RoverPass Marketplace bookings? You'll see revenue from bookings that flow through your own checkout. Marketplace bookings completed on roverpass.com or partner OTAs (Hipcamp, Spot2Nite) don't fire your tags — those happen on the partner's domain.
Q: Does this work with Google Ads? Yes. Link your GA4 property to your Google Ads account in GA4 Admin, and Google Ads can use purchase events for Smart Bidding and conversion reporting. You can also add a Google Ads conversion tag directly in GTM off the same purchase event.
Q: How do I get started? The integration is part of the Integrations bundle ($29/month). Submit a ticket and we'll get your container configured.
