Blank Receipts Printing from Your Thermal Printer

Blank Receipts Printing from Your Thermal Printer

If your Volcora thermal printer is feeding paper but printing blank receipts, don't worry—this is usually caused by the paper being installed incorrectly or a printer setting, not a hardware failure.

Unlike traditional printers, thermal printers don't use ink or toner. Instead, they print by applying heat to special thermal paper.

Follow the steps below to identify and resolve the issue.

Step 1: Run the Printer Self-Test

The printer's self-test will help determine whether the issue is with the printer or your computer settings.

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold the FEED button.
  3. While holding the button, turn the printer back on.
  4. Release the FEED button once printing begins.

If the test receipt prints correctly

Your printer is working properly. Continue to Step 3 to check your printer settings.

If the test receipt is also blank

The issue is most likely related to the paper. Continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Check the Thermal Paper

Thermal paper only prints on one side. If the roll is loaded upside down, the printer will feed paper normally but the receipt will be completely blank.

Reload the paper

Make sure the paper:

  • Feeds from the bottom of the roll.
  • Has the coated (shiny) side facing the printer's print head.

Verify the correct side

A quick way to check is to scratch the paper firmly with your fingernail or a coin.

  • If it leaves a dark mark, you've found the printable side.
  • That side should face the print head when the roll is installed.

Also, confirm you're using 80mm thermal paper. Standard paper will not work with a thermal printer.

Step 3: Check the Printer Driver and Print Settings

If the printer's self-test worked but receipts printed from RoverPass are blank or extremely faint, check your printer settings.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select Devices and Printers.
  3. Right-click your Volcora Printer.
  4. Select Printing Preferences.

Then:

  • Increase the Density or Darkness setting, if available.
  • Confirm the printer is using the official Volcora 80mm driver, not the Windows Generic/Text Only driver.

Step 4: Print a Test Receipt

Process a small test sale in the General Store.

If the receipt prints clearly, your printer is ready to use.

Still Need Help?

If your receipts are still printing blank after following the steps above, please contact RoverPass Support and let us know:

  • Whether the printer's self-test printed correctly or was also blank.
  • Whether you're using USB or Ethernet.
  • A photo showing how the paper is loaded inside the printer.

We'll be happy to help you get everything working again.
